Drumroll, Please...

It's a GIRL! You're a girl, I mean. We got the results back a little later than I previously thought, however, that doesn't matter, because we found out tonight that you are a beautiful little girl! I am overjoyed that I get to be the mother to a strong, powerful woman. I promise to make you strong. I am, however, a little ticked off that your father got his way. He was just born with luck on his side, I guess. You better believe that he was happy that you're a girl and that he no longer has to choose a boy name. I did task him with coming up with your middle name, however, and I think he's going to take quite a while to do so. But, that's okay, because, as of right now you are little Mina Anderson-Wolfson, and I have the privilege of being the first to type that out. I can't wait until you can proudly spell you own name, I can't wait until I hear it being called when you win a million awards, and I can't wait to read it in the news when you do ...

Ten Fingers and Ten Toes

So, tonight is kind of a big night, because we get to find out if you are a boy or girl! I am very excited and very nervous, which seems to be a theme with anything involving you, haha. I know it seems a little early, but, apparently, a blood test from the mother can determine your sex sooner than the 12-week ultrasound. How cool is that?! The test was also for any genetic abnormalities, but you are low risk for everything, and I couldn't be happier! You passed your first test with flying colors. We kind of knew your risk of anything fishy would be low though, because your father is Jewish and I'm African-American, which is quite the spectrum. Had we both been, say Ashkenazi Jews or had ancestry that hailed from the same region of African, then there might have been some problems. Checkmate, genetic diversity.  Neither your father nor I really care which what your sex is, always remember that, but I am kind of hoping you're a girl only because I've had the perfect ...

My Little Kodama

Your father and I had our first (official) doctor's visit and guess what? You are alive and well! We saw your little self on the ultrasound monitor, and you looked just like a tree spirit, or "kodama" from Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke ! So cute and all bundled up. You looked comfy, though you did move around a bit when the doctor was poking around you and your home, and I can't blame you; I wouldn't want someone poking my cocoon, especially if I was sleeping! I knew you were alright when the doctor smiled at the screen; this was the reaction I would have preferred the first time around.I studied her face harder than I've studied for any college exam, just to glean whether I was going to have another watery meltdown or not. Lucky for everyone involved, including your tiny self, all was well and we were all nothing but smiles.  I couldn't believe how well we were able to see you and your little arms and legs! You have fingers and toes now and y...
